Fruits sweeten only when they ripen and old age is one such fruit which has enriching taste experience to lead the world

               PECUC with the support of International agencies came forward to break the cell of this image in the year 1998 with a motto to make the community realise the potential of the aged and thereby enhancing  the dignity of the older persons in the family and the community as well. PECUC started different programmes for the welfare of the aged.
   

Adopt a Gran

    
This unique programme, which links needy older people with individual and corporate sponsors. It helps them in the form of food, clothing, medical care, bedding, articles of personal use and pocket money. PECUC started this programme in the year 1998 with 50 needy older persons in the Pahala panchayat of Balianta block of Khurda district with support from Help Age International, HelpAge India and Help the Aged UK. Apart from taking care of the basic needs of these older persons, efforts were made to rehabilitate in the community both socially and economically. PECUC is now initiating activities and mobilising more fund for helping the most distressed and disabled older persons under this programme.

ASHA


ASHA
is an association of the older persons formed with a view to organize themselves and empowering them to participate in the process of decision making. The group was started with a view to ensure economic security of the older persons, which helps older persons to start some productive activities.

Presently 24 no. of ASHA group are functioning with 324 no. of elderly persons who are more than 55 years of age.

Small groups consisting of 10 to 20 members were formed and were trained regarding the managerial and operational functions. Emphasis was given on the selection of trade, budget preparation, repayment schedule etc.

       PECUC is initiating activities and now supporting different trades like palm leaf work, fishing, pottery, idol making, betel vine, weaving, carpentry, blacksmith,

coconut vending and other small trades. Some groups have been supported for community irrigation and agriculture development also. PECUC is now mobilising more fund for these activities for older persons.
