the struggle for women's rights both in India and in the world, this period has been one
of the most eventful. From the fervent feminism of the sixties to the introspections on
women's status in the seventies, to women-in-development debates in the eighties and to
focus on gender issues in the nineties, has been a momentous but short transition. From

problems to women's issues, finally women's perspectives there has been a hole reshaping
of paradigms of development. PECUC as advocate of
gender justice and human rights has focused on promoting a high order of social and moral
standards ultimately ensuring development partnership, rather obstinate approach to the
issue.

APPROACHES
EQUITY : Promote women's status, power & controls, so that they are effectively
more equal with men. It also recognises women's active role in development, particularly
through productive role. It seeks challenge the power of men over women and to end
discrimination.
ANTI-POVERTY : To increase Women's income earning capacity
by IGP.
EFFICIENCY : Women essentially not as beneficiaries but
as a major resource in development. It must include participation of women, they have
capacity to compensate for declining social services by use their free time . It puts
women into mainstream of development.
EMPOWERMENT : Comes from women's group who seeks to empower themselves through
greater self-reliance. The right to determine their own choices in life. They also seek to
gain control & access to resources.
REFLECTIONS
|
PECUC witnessed decision powers are polarized among those who have control over
resources. Resources here not merely restricted to economic but all those sources, which
make an individual to be independent & stand on his own. PECUC felt that; women another half of the
population always

their devices, housekeeping, cooking, child rearing and so many looked down them as a NON
PRODUCTIVE work so they were suppressed also. However PECUC is operating programmes in this direction in it's operational
